Finally, after almost missing it since it was shown a month ago. My sister and I finally took the time to watch the movie Casino Royale. It was one of those week nights were you just want to relax. And what better way to do it, than to go to the cinemas. Albeit a lot of hesitations; after asking family and friends who had watched the movie their opinions, I mean in a few days; they will stop showing it in theaters, should we even waste 2.5 hours to watch it? The feedbacks and comments we heard from people didn’t rouse our eagerness to watch it. As most of the comments we heard were: It’s ok. It’s not bad. He (the lead star) didn’t look like your typical James Bond. He is not handsome enough. He looked more like a villain than a hero. We expected more gadgets. The leading ladies are not that pretty…and the list goes on. But without any other ‘good’ movies screening, there isn’t any other choice. Let’s just watch it. So we did and surprise; surprise!!! We enjoyed it immensely! The stunts are fascinating and the action scenes are more than thrilling. Though engrossed in each scene, we can’t help thinking at the back of our minds “What are they talking about: ‘It’s ok?!’” This movie is awesome!!! From a movie buff’s point of view, it has all the elements of a fine action film. And while Daniel Craig didn’t look like the ‘typical’ James Bond, he had an intense scene presence that was hard to miss. I enjoyed this movie because it seemed more REAL than any James Bond movies where he always comes out unscratched and looking oh-so-dapper. I bet if the film stars a much more popular British/Hollywood actor say: Brad Pitt…surely people will be clamoring how great this movie is. But can you imagine someone starring in this movie either than the very British Daniel Craig? Even Daniel knows he is being criticized for this role. Here’s what he said:
“I was affected by it – of course I was. What bothered me was that I was being criticized before I had done the work. I wasn’t going to get into an argument with these people, so my only response was, ‘See the movie and then you have the right to criticize, but first see what I am trying to do.’ It strengthened my resolve. I was hurt by it, but it just made me try harder. The pressure was there. I know a lot of people feel very passionate about the Bond movies, but so do I, so I just got on with it. What I tried to achieve was just making a movie people will want to go and see, and I think we have made a great movie. One of the things I was criticized for was that I looked like a bad guy, but I was happy with that because I think true good guys have to step into the dark side to do their job. I wanted people to question Bond’s morals and his judgment.”
Without doubt a lot of people feel the same way after watching this movie. It is truly a superb film and they couldn’t have chosen a more qualified lead actor.
Only if you are sick of hearing this movie is just passable and agree Casino Royale is an outstanding BOND film, just drop me a note here and let’s start piling up praises for Casino Royale which stars Daniel Craig!
And would I watch this movie again? A resounding: YES! So am giving it my *****Star Rating!
