Quantum of Solace

quantum-of-solaceI’ve been very patient.  It’s been…Wait! Let me check…Ok, I’ve looked forward to watching the sequel of Casino Royale for 23 months!!!  Finally it was shown last Wednesday and surprisingly, I didn’t run to the theaters or even bought advance tickets.  I’ve lingered for a few more days, almost a week; savoring the reactions of people who’ve seen it.  And besides, I guess I was really saving the best for last.  Well Quantum of Solace took a big risk to take a James Bond film to a different level.  More realistic, more in-your-face action scenes and less spy-gadget tweaks to the disappointment of techie fans all over.  The only device I do remember is the very high-tech phone cam and the computer board on one of the scenes.  Anyhow, with his oozing sex appeal and charismatic ruggedness Daniel Craig still proves to the world his superior ability to portray Mr. Bond.  Those who didn’t like him in Casino Royale; most probably accept him now and see him in a different light, and deem he truly fits the role.   There are two things though that I wasn’t digging: First is the Poster for this movie, it’s just too blah…I mean, if it’s not a James Bond film,  probably no one is ever going to see it because of that featureless movie poster!  Second, the bad guy actor Mathieu Almaric, he reminded me of a walking-talking dead corpse. Then in the end, when he had that big fight scene with Daniel, OMG, his shouting and grunting was so gay!  Fortunately, the opening theme song lived up to James Bond always catchy and constantly mysterious musical score.  All in all I gave it ****Star rating, not as great as Casino Royale but decent enough to make me wait for another James Bond top-billed by Daniel Craig motion picture!
